Working closely with the Chief of Educational Services, the Instructional Specialist for Literacy will provide leadership to the charter and nonpublic schools operated by the Children's Guild in the development of curricula, instructional techniques, and faculty development within the Reading/Language Arts content area. The specialist serves as a liaison with faculty, staff, students and administrative personnel on all matters relating to the Reading/Language Arts Content Area. The role of the Instructional Specialist is essential to the team's overall effort to raise student achievement and school performance. Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in the development and implementation of content area curriculum, instruction, and classroom management of materials for elementary, middle and high school students; Coordinates both short and long-range planning for the improvement of the program; Assists in the coordination, development and implementation of a professional development program for teachers; Participates in student/teacher or parent/teacher conferences as needed; Collects, analyzes, and reports school data to school and district-level administrators as requested; Applies a variety of instructional theories and models, incorporating best practices, student-centered learning and differentiated instructional approaches for the success of all students; Attends meetings as appropriate for district / building facilitation; Actively seeks the involvement of parents in the work of schools and school improvement, and provides appropriate guidance, oversight, and monitoring of services to all students and families; Observes and provides feedback to classroom teachers; and . Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications : To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to consistently perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Successful candidates will possess the following skills/competencies: Expertise in subject area, specifically guided reading in the primary grades or literacy within the Common Core State Standards. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and community; Demonstrated exemplary classroom practice as well as the ability to present demonstration lessons to classes and staff; Ability to work collaboratively to improve instruction using research-based approaches; Demonstrated competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers, principals, and parents; Knowledge of The Common Core State Standards and alternative modes of assessment; Experience in writing curriculum framework guides or an integrated curriculum desired; Ability to analyze student performance and participation data; Education Requirements : Master's degree in Education from an accredited college or university; and Three to five years experience at a minimum, as a Master Teacher in Content Area. Certification Requirements : Advanced Professional Certification for Teaching required. Administrator I certification preferred.
