  • Basic Requirements:

    Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

    In addition to the Basic Requirements, you may qualify at the GS-15 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:

    One year of experience at the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14) requiring application of the knowledge, skills and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience as defined: 1) Mastery of, and skill in applying expertise in advanced, analytical, mathematical, or statistical theories, principles, concepts, methods, and techniques related to statistical analysis; parametric and non-parametric analysis; computer modeling; decision theory; mathematical programming; regression analysis; and economic analysis; 2) Provides expert advice to leadership and/or officials responsible for broad program operations, and execute significant projects; 3) Expert knowledge of DoD land system safety programs, relevant technologies and policies, and organizational infrastructures; 4) Knowledge of test infrastructure, test capabilities, consumable assets, targets, ranges, test sites, instrumentation, etc., as they apply to military warfare and maritime operations/systems; 5) Ability to plan organize, develop studies or projects; 6) Ability to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations; 7) Experience in test planning, execution and evaluation of complex military systems , e.g., ships, aircraft, missile systems, ground vehicles, or weapons, in addition to specific experience in military warfare; 8) Knowledge and understanding to review proposed new systems and recommend changes in policies and processes to reduce losses in manned and unmanned aviation platforms; 9) A thorough understanding of the Department of Defense safety, logistical, personnel, medical, and financial data systems and of the details of the interrelationships between the Department and the Military Departments is important.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
