In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements:
Licensure: Applicants must passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, you must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Note: You must attach a copy of your current license/registration with your application package.
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts showing your degree completion or a copy of the CGFNS certification with your application package.
Specialized Experience: In addition to the above education and registration requirements, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes: providing nursing care to hematology/oncology patients during many phases of their diagnosis (including end of life and palliative care), providing education of adverse drug interaction and/or life threatening disease process progression, and administering medications and/or infusions (i.e. biotherapy, chemotherapy, blood products, antibiotic, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education Substitution: Some position allow applicants to substitute education for specialized experience. For this position, applicants must meet the experience requirement. They cannot substitute any amount of education for experience.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
