    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized experience is defined as:

    GS-07:
    One year of experience at the GS-05 level collecting evidence from crime scenes, providing administrative support to investigators and preparing reports.

    GS-09: One year of experience at the GS-07 level performing investigative support tasks, conducting interviews, preparing evidence and managing supply programs.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service or equivalent.

    You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

    GS-07: Completed a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a major study directly related to the work of the position with Superior Academic Achievement. Superior Academic Achievement includes: (1) standing in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; (2) a grade point average of 3.0 out of a 4.0 overall or during the final 2 years of the curriculum; (3) a grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 in the major field overall or during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (4) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.ORSuccessful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education that would have equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work of the position. One year of graduate coursework is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.

    GS-09: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or at least two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position

    Combining Education and Experience:

    GS-07: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and graduate education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

    GS-09: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

    FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.     • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
