The Therapeutic Nursery Program (TNP) is a specialized preschool program that focuses on the social and emotional development of children, ages 3-5, who are coping with social-emotional and behavioral difficulties that place them at risk for school failure. Children display a range of difficulties that include: hyperactivity, sensory processing deficits, excessive fears and anxiety, peer problems, depression, and aggressive behaviors. Many children have also experienced trauma related to: illness, abuse, divorce, and other early losses. The TNP is seeking a behavioral technician to support these children and their families.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
•\tTakes the lead and assists with any crisis situation--performing holds or removing a child from the classroom to assist in de-escalating the child
•\tConsistently monitors classroom and children. Anticipate and identify situations which may be triggering for the purpose of early intervention
•\tAble to skillfully use a wide variety of verbal and nonverbal de-escalation techniques while maintaining a patient and respectful attitude toward young children
•\tSupport the TNP teaching and clinical staff in the classroom
•\tAssist in the collection of behavioral data to support children's success
•\tMaintain professionalism with all staff and children during challenging situations, support leadership team regarding any changes in policy
•\tWorks with the lead teacher in the development and preparation of materials needed for classroom use
•\tAble to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in reflective supervision.
•\tParticipates in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
•\tContinues professional education in early childhood education or a related discipline by attending internal and external workshops, conferences and trainings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
•\tAble to physically manage children in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Children's Control Position or Team Control Position.
•\tDemonstrates ability to relate to children at their level of understanding
•\tKnowledge or human growth/development of young children
•\tSolid knowledge of classroom management
•\tAble to handle multiple tasks independently
•\tStrong people oriented and team skills
•\tAble to problem solve and anticipate needs of children
•\tManages conflict resolution effectively

Education and Experience Required:
The Behavior Technician must have a Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, child development, or related discipline.
Minimum of two years of work experience with early childhood population is required (i.e.: camp counselor, child care work, college practicum experiences).
Within the first six months of starting in the position, the Behavior Technician will complete six semester hours of approved early childhood training or the 90 hour Child Development Course (Child Growth & Development-Preschool-45 clock hours and Curriculum & Activities-Preschool-45 clock hours) which is required through Maryland State Department of Education, Office of Child Care.
The Behavior Technician must also obtain CPI training within the first six months of employment.
Work Schedule:


Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30
