ChildFund International is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Director of Business Development to lead our global business development team. Reporting to the Vice President, Program Development and part of the senior management team for Program Development, the Director of Business Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a grant fundraising strategy from institutional donors including bilateral, multilateral and foundation donors. This role is about more than just securing financial support. We are looking for an individual who can help ChildFund scale its impact and contribute to building sustainable country revenue units.. Grants, while currently a small part of ChildFund's revenue stream, are of outsize strategic importance to ChildFund because they drive program quality, scale, reputation and the under tapped potential for leveraging other funding streams, such as sponsorship, to drive greater influence and impact. You will work with country offices and program development colleagues to identify best program practices funded through child sponsorship that could be replicated and scaled-up through grant funding.. This position will work in a highly collaborative environment across teams, departments, technical staff, and country offices. You will be part of a global program team. The Director will develop a deep understanding of ChildFund's programs and capacities, and leverage that to build and deepen our portfolio with institutional funding. The Director will work with a global program team to design and curate ideas and orchestrate opportunities to leverage local partnerships, disaster response, program models, sponsorship funding, and lessons from other projects. You will also seek funding for new initiatives to help the organization innovate and scale.. You will lead a small global team of Business Development staff to support Country Offices and the International Office in the development and execution of capture plans, identifying funding leads, making go/no-go decisions and oversee technical and cost proposal preparation in accordance with ChildFund's policies and procedures. The Director will work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure that materials are developed to support resource mobilization efforts. You will have responsibility for ensuring winning proposals. The Director will ensure grant proposals are fully compliant, efficiently supported, technically clear and accurate, and contribute to ChildFund's global strategy and program priorities.. You will also play a critical role in strengthening ChildFund's capacity to grow its institutional grant portfolio by improving staff skills and knowledge, developing systems and tools. This includes training staff with business development responsibilities across ChildFund in the full range of fundraising life cycle activity: intelligence gathering, research, landscape analysis, competitive analysis, relationship building and proposal/budget writing.. The Director will promote child protection by remaining alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquiring relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understanding the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conducting yourself in a manner consistent with ChildFund's Child Safeguarding Policy.. You will have demonstrated experience with institutional fundraising for international NGOs, will enjoy the challenge of building a solid and comprehensive multi-million-dollar business development program, and inspired by a commitment to child protection and development.. Proven-track record in NGO business development and fundraising. You have at least a master's degree and 12+ years' experience in business development. You are well versed in US government funding agencies, other bi-lateral and multi-lateral lateral funding mechanisms and procedures and knowledgeable about large private foundations, including corporate foundations. You have been successful in securing multi-million dollar partnerships and enjoy the challenge of growing an organization's institutional grants portfolio. Prior successful experience in developing a grant portfolio within an organization having other major revenue sources (especially child sponsorship) is an added advantage.. Leadership and team management. You are able to develop a fundraising strategy and create and track fundraising goals. You can infuse colleagues across the organization with your passion for fundraising. You have experience leading and inspiring small high-performing teams and managing direct reports remotely. You have the intelligence to anticipate challenges and the determination to quickly identify solutions. You are able to support and contribute to work adjacent to your areas of technical expertise and job focus.. Focus on results. You have existing relationships with donors and leaders of other NGOs that could partner with ChildFund on proposals. You're able to leverage your network to identify talent and outside consultants for proposal development when necessary.. Gravitas. You are engaged and engaging. You know how to land the meeting and hold the attention of donors and can effectively influence their thinking. You have experience speaking to and writing about program design and implementation in a manner that indicates deep understanding and grasp of nuance and crafting compelling funding proposals and pitch materials.. Collaborative spirit. You actively listen and communicate. You can connect easily with your team and gain their trust and respect, even if they are half a world away. You are equally agile in connecting with the senior management team and your colleagues in other units who are engaged in sponsorship fundraising and philanthropy. You don't hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in. Familiarity with Salesforce is a big plus.. Global perspective. You are energized by working cross-culturally and are resourceful about working in a global organization operating in 22 countries.
