PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION The VP and Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for developing and driving the environmental and safety legal strategy and policy for the company. This executive level Environmental attorney reporting directly to the General Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor to Exelon's senior management with respect to all legal matters within the environmental and safety areas. This executive will set the Exelon overall legal vision, strategy and policy for these areas and be responsible for all legal services relating to these areas, including high-level, challenging and complex legal matters involving the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA, OSHA and other federal and state environmental laws. This executive will also be responsible for leading and managing a group of lawyers responsible for all environmental and safety matters throughout Exelon. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Overall responsibility for leading and coordinating all environmental and safety legal strategy and policy activities of Exelon and its subsidiaries, including developing and implementing a vision and strategy for Legal's environmental function 2. Perform legal services associated with high-level and complex legal matters in environmental and safety areas, including providing advice and counsel to Exelon's senior leadership on all legal matters in these areas 3. Provide leadership for, develop and manage all lawyers and legal professionals in practice area and manage allocation of legal resources, including outside counsel 4. Participate as member of Legal Council reporting directly to General Counsel to set objectives, policies and procedures, review performance and otherwise manage Exelon's legal function POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Minimum: *An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions *At least 15 years of professional experience in environmental law and policy *Strong managerial and leadership skills sufficient to lead and motivate a diverse professional workforce *Superior legal judgment in the business context *Advanced oral and written presentation skills and ability to interpret and clearly convey complex information *Ability to address challenging legal issues, managing competing interests and provide counsel to senior management Preferred: *Experience in safety and OSHA matters *Experience in dealing with environmental matters related to the utility and energy industries *Experience in administrative process relating to development and enactment of environmental laws and regulations Qualifications POSITION SCOPE Within the specific legal practice area, the DGC provides: (i) vision and strategy for the legal function; (ii) legal advice and counsel to Exelon's senior management; (iii) leadership of a group of legal professionals throughout Exelon and control of outside counsel; (iv) legal services on high-level or complex matters; and (v) allocation of legal resources and management of the legal budget.
