  • To qualify for this position, you must have:

    (1) Ability to Do the Work of this Position Without More Than Normal Supervision

    This is the OPM-required Screen Out Element and means you must demonstrate the following worker-traits in the performance of Motor Vehicle Operator duties:

    KNOWLEDGE:
    (1) possesses satisfactory or greater knowledge of the trade and
    (2) keeps informed of current trade practices

    ACCOUNTABILITY:
    (1) accepts and completes assigned tasks (requests assistance if needed) and
    (2) uses time productively

    QUALITY:
    (1) produces work products consistent with trade standards and
    (2) completes expected amount of work on schedule with a minimum of errors

    INITIATIVE:
    (1) takes prompt action to accomplish tasks and
    (2) properly organizes and prioritizes work

    AND

    (2) a valid State of Maryland Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - a copy of this license must be submitted as part of your application or you will lose consideration for this position.


    In addition, you must meet or exceed the following OPM-required Job Elements. This means your resume should include specific information to describe your level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities, as appropriate.

    Operation of Motor Vehicles - must have a valid State of Maryland Class B CDL and (at least) general skill in maneuvering (i.e., starting, stopping, backing-up, driving and parking) large trucks and/or passenger busses on familiar public roads and highways, under favorable circumstances and normal road conditions.

    Work Practices - must have (at least) general ability to apply MVO work practices; e.g., as requested and under general supervision, must assist with loading and arranging cargo; follow planned routes; recognize the need for routine maintenance; and provide information needed to complete driver reports.

    Ability to Interpret Instructions - must have (at least) general ability to follow instructions related to operating large motor vehicles; e.g., a basic understanding of common instructions pertaining to motor vehicles, driving and roads (for example, written or verbal directions, road maps, standard traffic and road signs or basic guidelines for loading/unloading of cargo) and must apply this information as requested and under general supervision.

    Ability to Drive Safely - must have (at least) general ability to apply common safety requirements while operating large-motor-vehicles, as evidenced by a satisfactory record of safe driving assignments.

    Reliability and Dependability - must have (at least) acceptable reliability and dependability while on-the-job, as evidenced by an adequate record of adherence to established times, routes and stops while safely and efficiently transporting passengers and/or cargo (for example, exhibiting occasional tardiness in reporting for an assigned shift/route or experiencing sporadic delays in completing assigned itineraries).
