    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
    1. Provide technical advice and guidance to program and field management in establishing and implementing a worker safety and health program that meets Department policies, standards, and criteria.
    2. Manage, coordinate, and participate in the review process of the most technical, unique and critical worker safety and health issues associated with all aspects of the Department’s programs.
    3. Serve, as a member of committees, task forces, etc., comprised of eminent scientists and engineers.
    4. Consult and negotiates on highly sensitive, specific issues with diverse groups and participates in special projects for the development of safety guidance for operations of exceptional importance because of unusual, potential hazards.

    1. Knowledge and skill sufficient to serve as a recognized technical expert in resolving controversial or novel problems
    2. Knowledge of such environment, safety and health related disciplines and subject matter areas as industrial hygiene, radiological protection, nuclear safety, maintenance, and conduct of operations to serve as a technical expert
    3. Knowledge of and skill in communication and public relations techniques to represent and serve as a spokesperson for the Department at conferences and meetings
    4. Knowledge of Federal, state and local environment safety and health regulations applicable to the agencies sites and facilities.
    "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.
