The Infection Preventionist works with supervision to implement the hospital wide infection prevention program. To include policy/procedure development, management of critical data, epidemiological analysis and reporting of infection data, product evaluation, team member education, monitoring for environmental and practice compliance, facilitation of the Infection Prevention Committee and management of infection prevention team members as designated.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists with the implementation of educational presentations regarding infection prevention and isolation/precautions in relation to specific communicable diseases

Conducts surveillance and outbreak investigations as indicated

In collaboration with Occupational Health, investigates significant infection problems and other infections amongst patients and team members
\t
Assists in planning, and day-to-day operations of the infection prevention program
\t
Reports communicable diseases to respective units/departments as indicated

Ensures infection prevention databases are maintained in a timely fashion\t

Represents infection prevention at entity and system-wide forums as required

Required Qualifications: Competencies:

Computer literacy, including experience with word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and epidemiology software
Strong working knowledge of adult education, patient care management, microbiology, immunology, and health care epidemiology

Ability to interact with healthcare personnel and professionals at all levels

High level of problem-solving and decision-making skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills, and ability to handle several projects simultaneously

Ability to provide consultation to staff, medical staff, patients, and outside agencies that interface with the hospital

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, Microbiology, or Medical Technology, Master's degree preferred
3-5 years of acute care experience preferred
Certification in Infection prevention (CIC) within AHC timeline(s)
