The Senior Accountant - General Purpose assists in the preparation and analysis of financial information related to the organization's Tessitura revenue accounting, credit card receipts and auxiliary service activities. Work includes, but is not limited to, monthly reconciliation of financial statement accounts, analytical review of activity, and participating in financial closings. The Senior Accountant - General Purpose has frequent internal and external contact with customers and service providers (e.g., Banks, Credit Card Clearing Company). The Senior Accountant - General Purpose also assists the Controller and Asst. Controller - Operations in ensuring conformity with corporate practices, policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

30-40% Ensure accuracy and integrity in capturing financial data by performance of the routine and non-routine daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual processes. As well, ensure proper internal controls are in place and operating effectively in all facets of financial reporting operations.

15-30% Compile, verify and audit credit card data from a variety of sources. Maintain and reconcile credit card accounts. Reconcile incoming payments for ticket receivables. Ensure deposits are timely and accurate as well as perform timely investigation and resolution of errors and omissions in general ledger. Serve as consultant for both internal and external customers who have questions or concerns regarding credit card transactions.

15-30% Work directly with the IT Department to create reporting solutions and assist in the testing of new software and procedural initiatives. Manage and troubleshoot data uploads from Tessitura. Act as primary finance contact and accounting expert for parking system upgrade and transition and assist in the development of new procedures and implementation thereof.

15-30% Act as primary finance contact and accounting expert for the Central Box Office and non-Development related Tessitura transactions. Prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts pertaining to Education Tessitura deposits, MyTix, Special Events credit card transactions, VMC/Amex deposits, and Central Box Office Group Sales/Subscription/Education check refund requests.

10-20% Informational Reporting duties: Oversee software installation and 1042-S processing. Assist with 1042 liability account reconciliation and the preparation of the 1042 and 1042-T. Assist with the preparation of the CDP, and other data repackaging exercises. Assist with the preparation of the 990. Manage the lease reconciliation process and prepare the Lease Footnote for the Financial Statements. Assist in the preparation of lead sheets for annual audit.

10-20% Act as partial back up to the General Purpose Accountant - Bank Reconciliation and Federal role. Act as back up for check deposit scanning. Act as alternate for preparation of quarterly bank reporting and manage deadlines pertaining to debt covenant compliance. Assist with the onboarding of new finance staff.

10-20% Other critical duties: (a) Assist staff throughout the Center to know and better understand our financial policies and procedures. Participate in group training sessions as well as one-on-one instruction; (b) Support preparation for and participate in annual financial statement audit and other regulatory audits as such audits occur; (c) Suggest improvements in processes to increase effectiveness and compliance as well as assist with any procedural changes as they arise; (d) Special Projects and other duties as assigned; (e) Maintain accurate process documentation; (f) Manage records retention process for the Accountant - General Purpose files; (g) Provide periodic coverage for petty cash and other department customer service activities.

Education/Experience:

Education: Associate degree preferred. Bachelor's degree in business-related field is a differentiating factor.

Experience: at least 2-4 years of general accounting/bookkeeping experience.

Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required:

Critical Skills: Good written and oral communication skills; proficiency in use of general ledger application; familiarity/experience with Lawson software is a differentiating factor, advanced knowledge and practice of Excel is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Occasional lifting and moving of supplies and files weighing as much as 26 pounds in high or tight spaces.

The noise level in the work environment is low.

Travel up to 5% may be required.
