Assistant Director of Economic Education
The Global Antitrust Institute (GAI) at George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School was created to promote the application of sound economic analysis to competition enforcement around the world through economic education programs, competition advocacy, and research. The GAI offers week-long legal and economic education programs, i.e., Economics Institutes, each year for foreign judges and competition enforcers. The GAI also hosts several shorter, domestic programs each year. Through its Competition Advocacy Program (or CAP), the GAI submits comments to domestic and foreign competition enforcers on draft laws and guidelines. The GAI and its affiliated faculty also participate in numerous speaking engagements at non-GAI events.
The GAI is looking for an Assistant Director of Economic Education
to join our team. The Assistant Director of Economic Education will play an important role in the management and development of the GAIs programs and activities—particularly the Competition Advocacy Program (CAP).
Reporting to the Director of Economic Education, the Assistant Director will undertake and manage a wide variety of projects, including contributing to initial drafts of CAP comments and associated research; the planning, organization, and execution of economic education programs and domestic events/programs; the design and execution of research projects; the management of research assistants working on these projects; the attendance at various DC antitrust events/conferences; and the support of the GAIs fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities: The Assistant Director will help organize and execute a variety of projects and activities to promote the Economics Institutes and the CAP comments—including the drafting of relevant materials, building and maintaining relevant contacts and networks, and assisting the Director of Economic Education, and, at times, other members of the GAI, with organizing academic roundtables, conferences, and other events. The Assistant Director will help with designing a variety of research and writing projects. The written work product will speak to a wide variety of constituencies and will cover a range of issues involving antitrust and competition law. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for managing research assistants working on these projects.
Required Qualifications: The position is designed for an individual with a J.D. degree (or equivalent advanced degree or experience) and an interest in promoting the GAIs mission and goals. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of antitrust and competition law and policy, has exceptional writing skills, and is self-motivated and detail-oriented with an ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.
