Organizational Overview

The Institute of International Finance (IIF) is one of the world’s largest global associations of financial institutions with nearly 500 members in more than 75 countries. We serve as a forum for exchanging views and developing proposals on global regulatory issues; represent our members from the private financial community in discussions with the public sector on global economic and financial policy issues; and provide our members with an independent source of global economic and financial research.

Position Description

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the General Counsel will provide legal support and advice to IIF including with respect to contract terms and negotiations, intellectual property, personnel, immigration, non-profit tax law, antitrust and political law. S/he is also expected to fulfill a variety of functions to include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the legal and compliance teams of IIF members on issues relating to membership in IIF or participation in IIF projects;
  • Assist in issues regarding IIF corporate governance including by attending IIF Board of Directors meetings, advising the Board, drafting Resolutions, and working with the Board Secretary to maintain Board records; and
  • Assist in the on-going review of IIF operational risk and advise regarding practices to mitigate risk.

Requirements

Applicants should have at least six years of legal experience including work in a law firm advising non-profit or trade association clients and/or in-house legal work for a non-profit or trade association. International experience would be valuable in helping to prepare a candidate for IIF’s global mission. Strong writing and communication skills are required. Also required are: a graduate degree from an accredited law school, a license to practice; a high degree of professional ethics, excellent judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.
