This position can also be located in a Hanover field office in Boston, Worcester, MA, Windsor, CT, Richmond, VA, Itasca, IL, Dallas, TX, or Houston, TX. Position summary: Healthcare Underwriters will prioritize and effectively manage work in a high high-volume production environment, with a focus on customer service through responsiveness, driving the underwriting process and proactively soliciting business from key agency partners. They need to be responsible for underwriting and pricing new and renewal accounts for designated agents, including quoting and documenting new submissions, managing a renewal book and managing task lists for new and renewal accounts. The Healthcare Underwriter is expected to maintain a thorough understanding and knowledge of Allied Healthcare admitted and non-admitted products and to sell and underwrite the unique features of these products. Works closely with Healthcare leadership and respective field colleagues to execute business plans. This is a full-time, exempt role. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Underwriting Allied Healthcare new business and renewals, including associated core lines of business Proactively responding to and contacting agents on new and renewal business Working collaboratively with Assistant Vice President - Allied Healthcare in areas including competitor benchmarking, customer feedback, risk appetite, and other pertinent underwriting issues Participate actively in team meetings to discuss quality, flow of business and agency management issues Staying current with Allied Healthcare underwriting strategies related to appetite and pricing. Recognize and solicit cross-sell opportunities on new and renewal accounts beyond Healthcare capabilities (ex. Auto, Marine, etc.); ensure account is handled appropriately across all coverage lines Utilizes market and competitor information to enhance relationships and individual account decision making; shares market/competitor information internally to enhance product offering Operates within scope of Letter of Authority for all underwriting decisions Completes file documentation according to best practices guidelines Provides clear and concise rating instructions for quotes prior to generating proposal for presentation to the agent Position Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 3-5 years Underwriting or Underwriting Assistant, or Underwriting Tech experience, resulting in profitable new and renewal business Knowledge and understanding of Allied Healthcare general and professional liability Knows and applies advanced underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification and control, coverage implications, pricing, loss analysis In depth knowledge of coverage specifics aligned with Allied Healthcare accounts to become value added resource in these areas to Agents and customers Ability to understand competitors product offering and apply this knowledge to enhance agency relationships and decision making Ability to manage workload to meet goals and service standards, while following workflow standards Excellent time management skills Demonstrated commitment to service and agency partners; high level of responsiveness Able to build and maintain close working relationships with Agents, underwriting assistants and field sales representatives, demonstrating strong relationship building, teamwork and collaboration skills Maintains a consistent, high level of productivity. Acts resourcefully to ensure that work is completed in keeping with specified time and quality expectations. General and Professional Liability Underwriting Knowledge - Knows and demonstrates the ability to apply in depth underwriting concepts, practices and procedures; including knowledge of exposure/hazard identification and control. Displays knowledge of pricing practices and applications. For assigned lines of business, able to articulate and practice principles of good underwriting, within specific limits and authority. Demonstrates good understanding of regional goals. Stays current with industry information and local market trends Physical Demands and Work Environment: Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (include % range of time, eg 75%-90%, as appropriate).
