Employee Relations Specialist, for Investigations - Department of Human Resources
The Employee Relations Specialist, for Investigations (ER Investigator) will report to the University Director for Employee Relations & Engagement. This position is responsible for conducting incident and disciplinary investigations and departmental administrative reviews, as well as review and access witness reports, incident reports, statements, and other workplace reports and findings submitted by departments, managers or staff to determine if policy violations have occurred; and issues reports with official findings and proposed solutions to resolve matters of concern. Duties include but are not limited to:
Internal Investigations
- Conducts investigations into reported employee workplace behavior which may result in progressive discipline.
- Leads and/or assists and provides guidance to departmental investigators engaged in incident investigations.
- Coordinates with University partners including, but not limited to, IDEAA, the Office of General Counsel, Internal Audit and others on complex matters, and/or matters identified by the University Director for Employee Relations and Engagement.
Training
- Creates and conducts comprehensive live and electronic training for University employees, department managers, and divisions on matters related to employee relations, progressive discipline and performance management.
Reviews Investigative Reports
- Reviews all investigation reports into workplace behavior which could lead to progressive discipline, as requested by the University Director for Employee Relations and Engagement, with respect to findings and reports of investigations.
Committee Participation
- Serves on relevant University committees, representing HR and the Employee Relations team. Completes other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate specialization
- Three to six years of appropriate HR, investigatory, or equivalent experience is required
- Knowledge of HR policies and practices, labor relations law and practice, state and federal wage, hour laws, and FLSA
- Demonstrated proficiency in the application of HR policies and practices
- Strong investigatory skills
- Attention to accuracy and detail
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to interface and effectively communicate with various levels of management
- Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with a high degree of professionalism
- Ability to relate to a culturally diverse university community; and to work well under stressful conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters in related field
- Higher education experience
- Familiarity with Work Day
