Arlington County is an exciting, innovative local government entity located in Northern Virginia. We are seeking a bright, highly motivated individual for an exciting one-year Management Internship. This position offers a career opportunity to a qualified individual with little or no previous professional work experience to help them prepare for a career. This Internship will offer a new college graduate or a currently enrolled graduate student with in-depth, hands-on learning opportunities in areas critical to supporting a local government structure.
What you will do?
Over the course of a year, Management Interns will work under the supervision of senior staff members to gain valuable on-the-job training and real-world work experience. They will support the County's efforts to consistently work toward greater efficiency and effectiveness by offering improved processes and fresh ideas, and by leveraging smart technologies, while becoming familiar with the public sector work environment as a viable and fulfilling career path.
Who you are?
A recent (2018) college graduate who has earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree OR is currently enrolled in a Master's degree program or will complete the requirements for the Bachelor's or Master's degree before the starting date of work. Management Interns may not have professional work experience related to the internship. In addition, the successful candidate will also meet the following criteria:

- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and/or tasks and easily switch focus as required;
- Ability to research and understand technical documentation;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills - ability to interact effectively with many levels of staff and to express ideas articulately, verbally, and in writing to a variety of audiences;
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills; and
- Strong customer service skills.
The Public Safety IT Management Intern will provide IT support services across all Public Safety agencies including Sheriff's Office, Police Department, Fire Department and the Office of Emergency Management. Main duties include serving the specialized technology needs of these various Public Safety agencies, correlating these technologies to a public safety environment and liaising with personnel in Department of Technology Services and the Public Safety IT (PSIT) Team. He/she will research and analyze Public Safety requests for IT support and take independent action according to established procedures, as well as coordinate with other members of the Public Safety IT (PSIT) team, vendors, and user communities to respond to requests for support, resolve problems, document solutions and communicate resolution to all appropriate parties.
This Management Intern will be an integral part of the Infrastructure team which is responsible for providing support and expertise required to maintain the Public Safety network, system hardware, all workstation and mobile devices, servers and peripheral equipment. In addition, the infrastructure team performs business analysis, manages system lifecycles, designs and monitors system upgrade and back-up strategies, analyzes systems to assure seamless integration, install test, deploy and retire IT components as is required to meet agency operational objectives. Selection Criteria
Minimum: Must have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree within the past year (2018) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Management Information Systems, Business Administration with IT focus, or closely related field.

Work hours: Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility between those hours.
