The George Mason University, Department of Computational and Data Science in the College of Science invites applications for a part-time Term faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Responsibilities: The selected finalist(s) will teach courses in data science, computational science, or computational social science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing or modifying courses to adhere to CDS pathways, contribute to the tasks involved in the evolution of CDS, and satisfy teaching and service requirements consistent with the department policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have an earned PhD in computational science, data science, or a related field before the start date of the position;
  • Experience teaching courses associated with data science and computational science;
  • Possess a strong commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching; and
  • Availability and ability to teach classes on multiple Mason campuses.
  • Applicants seeking consideration for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor must also have significant teaching experience.


Preferred Qualifications: Strong candidates should have experience in teaching courses associated with data science or computational science. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in R, Matlab, Python, or SQL (or similar); and experience in teaching courses in data science, modeling, simulation, and computational social science. Other preferred qualifications include:
  • The ability to teach multiple courses in data science, computational science, and computational social science;
  • Experience in developing on-line courses and management of undergraduate senior projects;
  • Previous instructional experience in the Virginia state university/community college system.
