The EL Instructional Coach's role is to build the capacity of schools and teachers to meet the learning needs of English Learners (ELs). The EL Instructional Coach provides professional development for teachers, staff, and administration that is designed to support both English Language Development and subject matter knowledge. The EL Instructional Coach's goal is to increase the ability of educators of ELs to understand and implement curricula, assessment measures and practices, and instructional strategies that support the language acquisition of ELs.

* Develops and implements both division-level and school-level high quality evidence-based professional development, working with teachers to refine their knowledge and skills. Professional development could include, but not be limited to:
o coaching, guiding, and modeling of best instructional practices through in-class demonstration
o supporting the development of lesson plans with teachers based on student needs
o supporting the integration of technology
o co-planning with teachers
o whole-staff presentations
o departmental presentations
* Communicates with the EL Administrative team when determining division and school-level needs
* Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with district-level curriculum consultants and program coordinators to share instructional practices that will increase EL achievement
* Integrates strategies with other LCPS initiatives
* Disaggregates and analyzes data and assists principals and teachers in measuring data to improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness
* Builds and maintains positive relationships with teachers and administrators
* Performs other duties as assigned

* Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in English as a Second Language
* Five years of successful experience in the teaching ELs at the elementary or secondary level
* Experience in teacher mentoring or coaching in inclusive and collaborative teaching models
* Demonstrated experience to quality, standards-based education for a culturally diverse community

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or bedn and may be required to life up to approximately 25 pounds.

The EL Instructional Coach reports to the English Language Learners Supervisor.
