  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physicals. Must meet and maintain the physical standards set forth in Civil Service Handbook X-118 and AR 40-501 (Class IV Standards) prior to appointment.
  • You must possess or obtain a valid Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • You must possess or obtain an Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Must be able to pass an Air Traffice Control (ATC) flight physical.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work of this job. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves Air Traffic Control experience providing Limited Radar Approach Control Terminal services; sequencing and separating aircraft conducting simultaneous arrivals and departures to a runway; directing the movement of aircraft on runways/taxiway; providing air traffic control assistance in accordance with Federal Administration Order 7110.65; providing instructions or advisories to ensure an orderly flow of traffic operating under Visual Flight Rule (VFR); and providing instructions or advisories to ensure an orderly flow of traffic operating under Instrument flight Rule (IFR).

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

    Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
