Senior Safety Specialist Job ID: req253Facility: Frederick: Ft DetrickLocation: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA The Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS, and emerging infectious diseases. Position Overview: PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Environmental Health and Safety Program is responsible for environmental protection, occupational safety and health, protective services, and emergency preparedness programs at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBLITIES The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for providing safety service and support for renovation projects to ensure regulatory compliance, particularly with OSHA Construction Standards, the National Electrical Code, and NFPA 70E. Assignments are performed independently, under the overall supervision of a Safety Officer. Duties include: Inspecting construction work-sites, electrical installations, and electrical and other construction work practices on both scheduled and unannounced basis Creating written reports of findings Conducting follow-up inspections Investigating reports of incidents and documenting findings Participating in project meetings Maintaining electronic records Providing support for laboratory renovation projects BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/ university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in a field related to safety/health sciences (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for US equivalency. In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of two (2) years of safety related experience Basic proficiency of regulations and practices relevant to Construction Standards, Electrical Standards, and general safety Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, DOT, NRC, EPA and others) relevant to the safety office and applicable to a biomedical research settingWorking knowledge or recommendations established by consensus standard-setting organizations relevant to the safety office (NIOSH, ANSI, ASHREA, NFPA, BOCA, NIH/CDC, and others)Ability to produce effective written and oral communications including technical report writing Research Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW)
