The Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) develops an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure and provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The Advanced Biomedical and Computational Science (ABCS) group is a part of the BIDS within Leidos Biomedical Research as a technological hub of translational scientists with expertise in biology, chemistry, imaging and informatics. ABCS develops state-of-the-art technologies in large scale data modeling, analysis and integration and supports the scientific research at the Frederick National Lab by helping translate scientific questions to technical solutions for cancer and biomedical research. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES The Postdoc fellow is responsible for conducting analytical development activities including image segmentation, image registration, image visualization, feature extraction, statistical analysis, and radiation toxicity predictive model development using machine learning and deep learning technologies on cancer patient image scans. Develop a longitudinal medical image visualization and quantification (radiomics) tool by integrating opensource solutions and ABCS in-house developed analytical software tools Develop Deep Learning based predictive models for radiation toxicity studies on cancer patient image scans Present data, methods, reports, and recommendations at internal and external meetings Conduct development actions with minimal oversight This position is in support of collaboration between the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Frederick National Lab BASIC QUALIFICATIONS To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: Possession of a Doctoral degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for US equivalency No experience required beyond the Doctorate Degree Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration: Experience with web application development Experience with Deep Learning and Machine Learning tasks such as image classification and segmentation Experience with statistics and radiomics analysis Experience with biomedical image segmentation and registration Experience with scientific software development under Linux and Mac OS environments Familiarity with common programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and JavaScript Ability to independently learn and develop new technologies (including proof-of-concepts) in a rapidly evolving environment Ability to complete software development cycle to deliver the final product in a timely manner A minimum of two (2) years of experience in biomedical image analysis and visualization Expected Competencies: Teamwork Problem solving Top technical skills Communication Responsibility Work standards Adaptability Curiosity Self-motivation Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW)
