  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a secret-level security clearance. A minimum of an interim secret-level security clearance is required before an individual can perform any IG functions or have access to IG records.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Successfully graduate from the Army Inspector General School and maintain certification in accordance with regulation.
  • Practice Inspector General (IG) attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an army IG.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes trains Staff as Inspectors; advises senior leadership to ensure that required annual inspections are completed; analyzes inspection reports; directs and conducts inquiries and investigations; AND plans IG assistance visits to subordinate units. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). **See Required Documents section below**

    • Have broad, contemporary Army experience and background that reflects outstanding performance and demonstrated potential for future service. This experience is crucial to gain and maintain credibility with Soldiers, Family members, and civilians when conducting IG functions.
    • Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations. A social security number (SSN) is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.
