Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service.
Specialized experience may include but not limited to auditing experience using Government Auditing Standards; serving as a technical expert solving complex technical audit questions and issues; reviewing and approving draft audit reports for technical competency and audit standards; development, formulation or execution of auditing policies, audit management guidance, practices and techniques, demonstrating an expert knowledge of audit standards; providing technical staff assistance and guidance to field audit offices in a variety of complex and technical audit program areas; planning, editing, reviewing, and composing highly technical, complex, and sensitive reports of national significance; collaborating with report authors and others to produce actionable written products that meet organizational standards; analyzing, evaluating, and writing policy, guidance and standard operating procedures related to auditing; interpreting professional audit standards and government-wide audit policies of the AICPA, GAO, and OMB and translating these requirements into OIG-wide audit policies; coordinating and promoting resolution and closure of audit recommendations in prescribed timeframes and leading people.

This position will not be filled until the Department's Placement Assistance Programs have been fully utilized.
The information you provide may be verified by a review of your work experience and/or education, by checking references and through other means (ex. interview). Your evaluation may also include a review by an HR Specialist or panel and may include other assessment tools (ex. interview, structured interview, written test, work sample, etc). The examining Human Resources Office (HRO) makes the final determination concerning applicant ratings. Your resume MUST provide sufficient information to substantiate your vacancy question responses. If not, the HRO may amend your responses to more accurately reflect the level of competency indicated by the content of your resume.
Degree: Accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term Accounting means accounting and/or auditing);
2. Combination of education and experience: At least 4 years of experience in accounting, or equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provides professional accounting knowledge. Applicants background must include at least one of the following:
A. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; or
B. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
C. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does NOT fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph 1, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully demonstrated the ability to perform work at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors have determined that the applicant had demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study in paragraph 1; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicants education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. There is no substitution of education for the required specialized experience at the GS-14 level.
Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
