Special Requirement: The incumbent must maintain an active/current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), licensed in a state as a Psychologist, Licensed as a Professional Counselor, or other professional mental health license that is directly related to this job.
Basic Education Requirement: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate for a Mental Health Specialist.
In Addition to the Basic Education Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-02 level or equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include all of the following: 1) Experience providing mental health assessments; 2) Experience providing or participating in mental health crisis intervention; 3) experience interpreting a variety of medical test results; and 4) Experience conducting mental health related training.
Exerience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.
Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.

This Term Appointment will initially be for a two-year period, but may be extended for a total of five years. Should the need arise, this position may be made permanent without further competition.
As an employee on a Term Appointment, you will not acquire competitive status and you will not be covered by the agency's Interchange Agreement with the Office of Personnel Management, which allows for noncompetitive transfer from CNCS to other agencies in the competitive service of the federal government. Qualified applicants will be placed in one of the following three categories:
1 - Qualified Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.
2 - Well Qualified Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and demonstrates proficiency based on the answers to the job specific questions.
3 - Best Qualified Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and demonstrates high level proficiency based on the answers to the job specific questions.
