Position Summary: The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for providing support for environmental engineering and sciences projects and programs, including general civil engineering, energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability in the built environment. Emphasis is on the physical and human environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:  Assist in managing junior civil and environmental engineers and scientists. Lead and assist with projects, providing guidance to junior team members, to gain implementation proficiency in environmental engineering and science programs and projects. Stay up-to-date with traditional environmental engineering disciplines, identify and assist company in entering emerging disciplines in this realm. Provide input on and contribution to proposals and client presentations for new projects and business development activities. Maintain contact with key clients and participate in select professional organizations.

Education, Experience and Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related field is preferred. Engineer in Training (EIT) license is preferred. Otherwise, must be on track to obtain the EIT certificate within 24 months of hire, by testing or reciprocity. Minimum 2 to 5 years of demonstrated experience in Civil Engineering with focus on environmental engineering and sciences. Strong environmental engineering and sciences background, including knowledge of project phases (planning, administration, field studies, conceptual and detailed project design, program and project documentation, field inspections and oversight, project closeout). Ability to develop project/program appropriate planning and engineering design drawings and specifications. Ability to perform GIS analysis and Access Programming. Ability to oversee AUTOCAD drafting to develop plans. Must possess excellent oral, written, technical problem-solving and data analysis skills. Must have excellent computer skills. Certifications desired that are appropriate for area of concentration. Sustainable Energy certifications are highly desired (e.g., CEM, LEED, etc.)

Working Conditions: Typical indoor activities consist of sedentary conditions; sitting and working at a computer in an office setting. External activities may consist of working in conditions of extreme cold and/or hot temperatures. Assignments require ability to transport oneself to and from the field site. May be subject to noise and hazardous site conditions, such as slips, trips and falls and exposure to potentially hazardous materials. All required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be provided when necessary.

Physical Demands: Physical demands are moderate, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds and/or frequently moving up to 25 pounds.  Must be medically able to wear a respirator and perform work duties while wearing the respirator.
