AboutWeb is looking for an enthusiastic software development intern to assist our software development team in developing open source applications. We have multiple projects running concurrently and you will be responsible for specific development tasks as well as participating in Agile sprints, tracking and responding to tickets, and providing input into design elements.
This internship will help you acquire experience working in the Information Technology industry as well as the government contract world. You will learn and implement coding standards within the IT field and work within industry standard productions environments. As you integrate within the team, you will also be assigned and responsible for development tickets during development sprints. You will be expected to respond on stand-up calls about the status of the tickets. We are seeking a commitment of 10 hours/week. This internship is initially considered unpaid but there is the opportunity to transition to a paid internship and beyond.
Software Developer Intern Responsibilities:
  • Work within our existing development team to handle development tasks
    • Typically this work is being done with open source technology
    • There is a variety of work from the front-end to the back-end, including cloud migrations
  • Be assigned specific technical tasks and associated deadlines and be responsible for meeting those deadlines
    • Progress on the tasks will be tracked using our JIRA instances as well as stand-up calls
    • Senior development staff will support these efforts and provide oversight
  • Provide ideas and concepts during brainstorming sessions to provide further enhancement to the applications
  • Work with non-technical staff to implement changes and modifications to production systems through our release process, as applicable

  • Passion for working with a social enterprise company
  • Strong desire to learn about the IT industry combined with professional drive
  • Interest in learning about the business strategies of a social enterprise company
  • Knowledge, understanding, and hands-on experience working with open-source technologies such as AngularJS, NodeJS, MySQL, etc.
  • Familiarity with JIRA or other ticketing/tracking systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Current enrollment in a related BS or Masters degree
