Works as part of the Family Engagement Program (FEP). Serves as an expert in father engagement policies and best practices. Consults with Children Youth and Families (CYF) staff on effective strategies to engage fathers facing significant life challenges such as family isolation, separation from their children, substance use, and/or conflictual relationships with the mothers of their children. Supports and provides advanced trauma-informed clinical interventions with fathers and their families. Co-facilitates fatherhood groups, helps train volunteer group facilitators, and assists in the implementation of new fatherhood initiatives. Participates in community events to promote responsible fatherhood and to educate the Fairfax County community about the importance of fathers and their contribution to children safety, permanency and well-being. Participates in local and state fatherhood workgroups and committees. Serves as a co-trainer for agency staff trainings. Uses automated information systems to support clinical practice. Travels throughout Fairfax County for the provision of services. This position requires a flexible schedule for after-hours meetings and occasional weekend events.

Illustrative Duties:
Conducts home visits to support engagement of fathers with services and with their children;
Collaborates with Children Youth and Families (CYF) staff to advocate for and assist fathers in obtaining and navigating needed services and resources;
Demonstrates expertise in identifying community resources that address a broad array of father related service needs
Prepares testimony and testifies in court proceedings

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to very quickly establish rapport, develop trust, and maintain effective relationships and boundaries with fathers and families of diverse backgrounds receiving services.
Ability to effectively deliver a 12-week fatherhood group curriculum;
Strong group facilitation skills / ability to effectively manage group dynamics;
Ability to accurately collect and enter client related data;
Ability to retrieve, compose, and save progress notes into the electronic case record.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license required upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in social work (MSW) or a related human service degree. Strong group facilitation skills. Experience in child welfare and family engagement practice. Experience working directly with non-custodial fathers and individuals with substance use issues. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check and driving record check.
Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers.
Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficiently mobile to make home visits and attend meetings and community events outside the office. Ability to use automated technology. Ability to transport 40 pounds (within a travel case or cart containing supplies) for fatherhood groups and training setup. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
