GS-05: One year of specialized experience to at least the GS-04 level or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include knowledge of automated data processing standards, policies, and techniques; information processing sequences, controls, and procedures; and computer hardware and/or software systems and their interfaces; of COBOL, FORTRAN, or other higher level programming language; and the terminology, codes, abbreviations, and graphics for preparing system documentation or programs.
GS-06: One year of specialized experience to at least the GS-05 level or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include knowledge of data processing rules, operating procedures, and processing methods to perform a wide range of information processing, preparing, advising, assisting, coding, and procedural problem solving duties; of computer systems, software, and hardware to provide maintenance and user advice, and assistance in all computer-related areas; of the operating system software to install application software, troubleshoot operating systems and application software problems.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-06 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge of the fundamentals of programming logic; system and higher level languages comparable to COBOL and FORTRAN used in limited programming; and operating system input/output methods, software, and existing applications. This is used to program assigned modules, provide for a variety of input, media, processing controls, variations in run stream controls, and software utilization and suppression.
GS-08: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which include knowledge of subject matter information requirements to coordinate with users and acquire information about subject matter content, processing purposes, program objectives, and similar information for use in module and modification programming and knowledge of programming techniques appropriate to recognize program modification requirements that can be designed and implemented without impact on total system logic or processing effectiveness, and to initiate re-design (patch) of those program segments.
GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-08 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes extensive knowledge of computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, and magnetic media; knowledge of a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; knowledge of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
GS-10: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge and skill in ordering and interpreting system dumps, ordering and implementing back-up recovery procedures to replace faulty tapes or disks, reallocating equipment usage to work around equipment malfunctions, recognizing priority contentions, removing work from an operating schedule, and other similar actions involving knowledge of the equipment, programs, and operating options; troubleshooting and resolving problems with information systems equipment located in the organization.
GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-10 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes Knowledge of computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, and magnetic media; knowledge of a wide range of established methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; skill in ordering and interpreting system dumps, ordering and implementing back-up recovery procedures to replace faulty disks, reallocating equipment usage to work around equipment malfunctions, recognizing priority contentions, removing work from an operating schedule, and other similar actions involving knowledge of the equipment, programs, and operating options.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of an extensive body of rules, procedures, formats, protocols and specialized terminology as they relate to formal legal proceedings, to prepare, process, and disseminate legal forms and documents, and to carry out legal notarial acts.
2. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to be able to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.
3. Knowledge of word processing automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual documents, such as legal proceedings, letters, reports, memos, and form letters.
4. Skill to operate closed microphone equipment, or similar mechanical equipment, sufficient to take dictation at speeds of not less than 175 words per minute to reproduce material on a disk, cylinder, or similar device.
5. Skill in typing; a qualified typist may be required.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to provide training and guidance to others.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
