The Emmes Corporation is searching for a newly created Communications Specialist due to growth located in our Rockville, Maryland office. Emmes has offices located at the below locations and throughout the greater Washington, DC area with flexibility for office location preference, dependent upon position.

Emmes offers support for the entire process of clinical trials from study design and protocol development through data analysis and manuscript generation.

Primary Purpose

The Communications Specialist will play a key role in leveraging social and digital media to increase the reach, engagement and results of social media and communication campaigns on behalf of Emmes and global projects. Specific responsibilities will include development of social media strategies and content, written website content, promotional plans, e-newsletters, photographs for social media posts, and supporting production for multimedia including videos, social live streams and/or webinars for global reaching audiences.

Additionally, the Communications Specialist leads the communications efforts for select internal client projects including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), CSCI (Sickle Cell Cure Initiative) project for CSCI-funded scientific, outreach, and patient advocacy activities. The Communications Specialist participates in planning day to day communication activities and deliverables identified by projects and serves as the communications liaison among scientific advisors and stakeholders.

This position is located in Emmes’ corporate headquarters in Rockville, Maryland and may involve travel to the project site as dictated by the projects and activities selected.


    Write content for both print and Web Support the planning and implementation of the CureSCi communications strategy Manage the CureSCi’s social media and online presence Recommend techniques to improve the CureSCI’s public image Ensure that all CureSCi materials meet the CureSCi’s brand identity strategy Serve as point of contact for Emmes’ communications activities as part of the CureSCi Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies Work with key CureSCi players to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the CureSCI’s strategic vision Build and maintain relationships with CureSCi stakeholders

    Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations or in a related field required Three or more years of communications experience in a related communications role, preferably within a global health, clinical research, biotechnology, or life sciences environment preferred Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Knowledge of Social Media platforms and development of corporate pages for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, including Social media advertising programs for Facebook, Google Ads, Twitter desired Work history leveraging Social media scheduling software such as SproutSocial, Buffer or Hootsuite Email marketing software such as Mailchimp and/or Constant Contact preferred Website posting capability within a CMS template in WordPress and Drupal helpful Basic understanding of SEO, 508 Compliance, Responsive Design + Adobe Creative Suite a plus Working familiarity with Google Analytics and social media metrics desired Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge and understanding of scientific and research terminology in written communication materials desired Proven strategic and creative mindset with meticulous attention to detail
