CLINIC AIDE (SCHOOLS)
Please note: This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions, both bilingual (Spanish) and non-bilingual.
This is a part-time position for 35 hours a week for 10 months a year during the Arlington Public Schools' calendar year.
This opening is in the School Health Bureau in the Public Health Division. This employee provides first aid, emergency care, and clerical services in a school clinic at one of the Arlington Public Schools. The Clinic Aide works as part of a public health team providing services for a diverse population in the school and community.
- Assess and provide first aid to sick and injured children who come to the clinic during the school day;
- Test students' hearing and vision;
- Respond to medical emergencies in the school;
- Manage clinic inventory and supplies;
- Refer and follow-up student's health conditions as directed by the public health nurse;
- Maintain confidential medical records, including both paper-based and electronic records;
- Administer medications to students as authorized by parent and physician; and
- Communicate with parents, the public health nurse, and school staff on matters affecting the health of students.

Selection Criteria
- A High School diploma or equivalent;
- Two years of experience providing direct clinical care and/or human services or serving as a teaching assistant; and/or
- Oral Spanish fluency may be required depending upon the position.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Providing assistance in a clinical setting;
- Working in school organizations, civic groups, or volunteer service groups;
- Clerical experience in records maintenance; and/or
- Working with children.
A valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR for Healthcare Providers or the ability to obtain such certifications prior to start date.
The selected candidate may be required to submit a tuberculosis skin test (also known as the tuberculin or PPD test) prior to start date.
For Volunteer experience to be considered as relevant work experience, please indicate hours worked per week, start/end dates, work performed, and name of organization/employer.
If substituting college coursework for the experience requirement, the human services related discipline (major course of study) AND the number of semester or quarter hours completed must be clearly indicated in the application form.
An oral Spanish proficiency examination will be administered prior to appointment for any bilingual positions.The incumbent in the bilingual position will receive the language pay premium on all hours worked and on paid leave hours.
Work hours: Monday through Friday during normal school hours. Hours may vary slightly depending upon school assigned.
Work location: Employee will be assigned to a public school in Arlington, but may be assigned to any school as needed.
Part time permanent employees are eligible for County benefits, including health insurance, on a pro-rated basis.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
A background and pre-employment criminal records check including fingerprinting will be conducted. You will be required to provide police clearance records upon final consideration for employment.
A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry Check.
