The IRF-PAI Coder is accountable for the concurrent coding process for the IRF-PAI and query process with the clinical team, which supports the revenue cycle of the organization. This role is accountable for the accuracy of coding, as well as efficient process that supports the timely submission of the IRF-PAI and billing process.

Has a clear understanding of PPS, IRF-PAI and UB04 coding, and of the “CMS 13”
Maintains a strong partnership and strong communication with the PPS coordinator
Verify the ICD codes on the UB-04 and the IRF-PAI to reduce delays in billing, coding errors and denials
Insures that ICD codes accurately represent each individual patient's case


RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification or Coding Certification by a nationally recognized organization.
Ability to set priorities and make independent decisions as appropriate
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
