Director of Brass Assistant Term Professor

The George Mason University School of Music invites applications for the position of Director of Brass, beginning Fall 2019. Responsibilities: This is a full-time, renewable assistant term (non-tenure track) applied artist-faculty position with appropriate salary and benefits. Primary responsibilities include applied teaching of graduate and undergraduate music majors within the School of Music, and recruitment of brass students across all areas of the school, including students within the areas of Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, Jazz “Big Bands” and Combos, Green Machine Pep Band, and various Brass Chamber ensembles. Additional responsibilities may include rotating topics of Brass Instrumental methods courses, brass pedagogy and literature, coaching brass chamber music, or conducting brass sectionals for large ensembles at Mason.

Required Qualifications: * Masters degree in music; * Distinguished record of teaching and artistry at the local and national level, including a demonstrated record of success creating and sustaining a successful performance career; * Commitment to recruitment and developing relationships with music educators at the local, state and national level; * Demonstrated success with teaching in the contexts of a liberal arts university; and * Strong interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree; * Demonstrated expertise as a performer and teacher across a wide spectrum of musical styles to include Classical, Jazz, and Contemporary / Popular Music; and * Demonstrated success with engaging the music community, recruiting, and developing exceptional programs
