General Summary of Position: Is an active member of the Division of Nursing leadership/management team and is responsible for one or more defined areas of organized nursing services (clinical or administrative). Maintains and demonstrates current knowledge of healthcare organizations and clinical expertise, providing leadership and expertise to advance nursing practice and the provision of quality healthcare delivery in a defined specialty. Creates and facilitates a learning environment and atmosphere of participative management within the framework of shared governance and shared decision making. Contributes to the DON strategic plan and goals and is accountable for the implementation and attainment of these goals within their defined areas of responsibility. Promotes a culture in practice to assure the Hospital mission of a Patient First environment, enhances productivity and job satisfaction. Reports to the Senior Vice President of Nursing.EDUCATION: Master's degree in Health Care or Business Administration is required. EXPERIENCE: More than ten years experience of progressively more responsible job related experience; at least five years of which are in an upper level managerial/administrative nursing position. CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION/LICENSURE: A license as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia is required. Certification in area of specialty and/or certification in nursing administration by a nationally recognized nursing organization.
