The Intern will be an integral member of the Product Performance team, and will gain valuable on the job training and Actuarial work experience. The team's primary function is to enable improved product performance, through actuarial analysis. Complete investigations into underwriting, sales, and policyholder data Review data for quality, completeness and fitness for purpose Suggest appropriate data substitutions and augmentations Summarize data and identify key features Accurately and clearly document findings Assist with underwriting innovation and risk pricing Build actuarial models to evaluate the performance of underwriting practices (eg application questions, medical evidence, 3rd party data) Run sensitivity tests to show how changes in assumptions impact results Develop good understanding of LGA's automated underwriting engine, and identify areas for improvement. Work collaboratively with other teams (eg Underwriting, Product Development) Assist with distributor and vendor quality scores Assist in developing actuarial models to evaluate the quality of new business by distribution channel, and the protective value of different underwriting tools Run quality scores every quarter, and make changes to models when required Draft reports summarizing quality score results Assist with granular expense segmentation Assist in developing a new actuarial tool for expense allocation which is accurate and relevant for the end user Make changes to the expense allocation tool each year in line with business changes, and to reflect updated data Assist in drafting expense segmentation report Assist with critical policyholder behavior analysis Build actuarial models of how policyholder behavior impacts on business value Use optimization techniques to identify where business value can be improved Assist with the implementation of pilot studies Other duties as assigned Education Bachelor's Degree in actuarial science or mathematics/related studies. Completion of 1 Actuarial Exam (2 is preferred but not required) Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with programming and/or query language Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Ability to work with large amounts of data, as well as mathematical/actuarial
