The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of an Utility Systems Operator without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) Operating and performing preventative maintenance on power boilers, chillers, auxiliary equipment and pollution control equipment (e.g., pumps, air compressors, water softeners, fuel tanks, fans, and deaerating equipment); 2) Reading gauges and meters and record readings to determine if adjustments to water systems are needed; 3) Using and maintaining various types of hand and/or power tools.

Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers, chillers, cooling towers and support equipment; i.e., auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending and crouching.
Frequently lifts and carries parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.
Employee normal works indoors. Occasionally works outside. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions and works from catwalks and ladders. Employee is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating equipment, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area. Subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, steam and contact with pipes and boilers.
The work may require the use of a motor vehicle.
Required to work one of three shifts on a fixed or rotating schedule, or uncommon tour of duty including weekends and holidays.
Required to work overtime whenever necessary.
Required to maintain fit testing for full-face respirator.
Perform other work as assigned by supervisor or higher-level employee.
