    Specialized Experience:

    You must possess one year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that are typically in or directly related to the position be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service, or comparable pay band system. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector.

    Examples of Specialized Experience may include:

    1. Performing a variety of human resources support work related to staffing, recruitment, position classification, and employee benefits;
    2. Maintaining administrative files;
    3. Determining employee benefits entitlements; responding to telephone and personal inquiries regarding merit promotion and delegated examining procedures;
    4. Processing actions in the competitive and excepted service; providing advice to employees regarding automated HR systems and other HR related issues;
    5. Reviewing and correcting actions in an automated system; advising management on action history and steps required to correct actions;
    6. Evaluating and making recommendations regarding personnel related actions; and
    7. Conducting new employee orientation; and assisting in the preparation or routine responses and providing advice to the general public.


    *You must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veterans eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if applicable.
