    Specialized experience for the CN-52 is defined as one year of experience at the CN-51 (GS-11 level), or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is:
    •  Experience preparing legal documents and conducting legal research in support of staff attorneys, including experience checking legal citations using the Blue Book and experience using one or more of the following computerized legal reference systems: Lexis Nexis, Lexis Advance, Westlaw, and/or Westlaw Next; AND
    • Experience compiling and managing documents and other materials for production in litigation or submission to oversight bodies or other entities, including experience performing document review or conducting basic searches using an eDiscovery or document review platform such as Relativity or Clearwell; AND
    • Experience working with attorneys in an active and fast-paced legal office, including managing and maintaining record copies of legal opinions, directives, guides, instructions, and other resources, and accessing them electronically as requested by attorneys, and creating and maintaining knowledge management and tracking systems to support the work of a legal office.

    Specialized experience for the CN-51 is defined as one year of experience at the CN-40 (GS-9 level), or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is:
    • Experience assisting in preparation of legal documents and performing basic legal research in support of staff attorneys, including experience checking legal citations using Blue Book and experience using one or more of the following computerized legal reference systems: Lexis Nexis, Lexis Advance, Westlaw, and/or Westlaw Next; AND
    • Experience assisting in the compilation and management of documents and other materials for production in litigation or submission to oversight bodies or other entities, including experience performing document review or conducting basic searches using an eDiscovery or document review platform such as Relativity or Clearwell; AND
    • Experience working with attorneys in an active and fast-paced legal office, including managing and maintaining record copies of legal opinions, directives, guides, instructions, and other resources, and accessing them electronically as requested by attorneys, and creating and maintaining knowledge management and tracking systems to support the work of a legal office.

    Substitution of Graduate Education for Specialized Experience Graduate education may be substituted for all or part of the specialized experience required at the CN-51 level as follows: LL.M. or doctoral degree in a directly related field or three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree from an accredited college or university; or, a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that together meet the requirements for this position.

    Graduate education qualifying for this position must be in law or other field directly related to the work of the position and must have provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those that would be gained through one year of specialized experience as described above. For applicants who have not completed the graduate degree, related graduate education other than that leading to a LL.M. degree may be substituted for specialized experience at the rate of one full academic year (18 semester hours or equivalent) of education for one year of specialized experience. Education leading to the LL.M. degree may be substituted for specialized experience at the CN-51 level only after completion of the requirements for a JD or LL.B. degree

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    - A one year probationary period may be required. 
    - Must successfully complete a background investigation.
    - Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
    - If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
    - Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.  Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
    - Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
