Sentara Rockingham, Harrisonburg is hiring a Community Health Educator

Shift: Full or Part Time
Full Time hire must be able to travel/perform away work 1-2 nights per week

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in a human services or child-related field
  • Education or 2+ years work experience related to child care, child development or early childhood education
  • Working knowledge of child care industry in Virginia, including an understanding of family and community needs, licensing/regulatory and quality standards, child care workforce dynamics, and professional development needs
  • Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and to work with them in a fair, supportive and cooperative manner
  • Demonstrated flexibility and excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize work function independently, completing a high volume of forms and variety of tasks accurately and with close attention to detail under pressure of deadlines, with frequent interruptions or distractions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent typing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
  • Incumbent must be able to pass applicable background checks, which may include fingerprinting


Other
1-2 years of public health or social work related experience preferred. 2 years related experience required in lieu of Associates degree.

Responsibilities:

Engages in health promotion activities and implements best practice public health strategies and interventions to promote health and well-being. Develops and presents educational programs; educations patients/clients on disease self-management and health behavior change strategies; promotes disease prevention and early detection; provides guidance on available resources.
