Associate Director Financial Aid Student Services and Outreach

Office of Financial Aid

Exempt, Regular, 100%-Time, Pay Grade 3.2

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks an Associate Director within the Office of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Services and Outreach, the Associate Director will assist with the overall administration and management of the team and be responsible for the day to day direct management of a designated staff.

Must be able to meet and maintain access requirements for secure federal and/or state websites, such as the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). Individuals cannot currently be in default on a student loan.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide leadership and supervision for Assistant Directors, Financial Aid Counselors and other Financial Aid staff members
  • Assist with the research and resolution of escalated student issues from senior management and executives
  • Manage file review, verification, resolution of conflicting information and other day to day Financial Aid tasks
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal Title IV regulations, state rules and institutional policies pertaining to financial aid
  • Collaborate closely with the Compliance and Quality Assurance team to develop and maintain continuous improvements to the quality assurance plan for the Student Services and Outreach unit
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of processing functions in conformance with university and federal regulations
  • Oversee Student Services and Outreach unit special projects including pilot programs
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Five years (5) of progressive managerial experience in student aid, higher education administration
  • Financial aid experience in a higher education, working with both traditional and non-traditional populations
  • Strong working knowledge of systems and data processing techniques for automated systems
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Must demonstrate leadership abilities for staff supervision, organizational management and problem solving skills
  • Be able to document work clearly, make independent decisions and schedule work to meet deadlines
  • Work accurately and quickly with attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to customer service

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's Degree
