Dining Services Senior Associate Director for Operations

The position offers a competitive salary, based on skills and experience, of between $120,000 and $147,500 PLUS AN OUTSTANDING BENEFITS PACKAGE including almost 8 weeks of paid leave each year, in addition to paid sick and safe leave, tuition remission for employee and dependents, retirement, health, dental, pharmacy and life insurance, reduced membership costs in an on campus golf club and award winning recreation center and more!

Reporting to the Director, the Senior Associate Director for Operations serves as the COO for the Residential Dining, Retail, Restaurant, Concessions and Catering Operations of the department as well as the central bakery and Commissary operations. Responsible for formulating and monitoring food, labor and operational expenses for each area. Leads and develops management team in the creation of new concepts, operating procedures, menus and services. Develops short and long term planning recommendations for each operational unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Institutional Administration, Restaurant Management, Business Administration or related field AND 10 years of management experience in a large multi-unit, multi- concept food service facility, at least 8 of which were in a senior role. Must be able to pass Secret Service and/or State Department background checks

PREFERENCES: FMP Certification and/or formal culinary training and/or Master’s Degree in Hospitality Management or related field. Demonstrated experience working in a large public university campus. Successful experience managing “Anytime” Residential Dining Programs; high Volume “VIP’ catering; Division 1 Athletic Concessions; Athletic Training Tables; National QSRs; Retail Cafes; Retail Cafes; Table Service Restaurants/Bars; and C Shops

Must have, or obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain a Prince George’s County Maryland Food Service Manager Certification and a TIPS Certification (or other alcoholic beverage service awareness certification approved by the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland). Must have a Driver’s License, valid in Maryland with less than 6 points.

This is an essential position and the incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency conditions. The University of Maryland is a non-smoking campus.
