Sentara Healthcare is hiring a Director of Compensation and Performance Management. Position Overview
  • This position is responsible for a system-wide Compensation and Performance Management strategy which includes leading the planning, design, implementation and communication of a compelling total rewards program.
  • Leadership in this capacity will be critical in aligning Compensation and Performance Management programs that will help Sentara to attract and retain health care leaders and top talent to fulfill our mission.
  • This role will ensure all of Sentara's reward programs are competitive, sustainable, scalable, and have a positive impact on the short and long term performance of the organization.

• Establish the strategic direction for Compensation and Performance Management program and policy development including variable pay programs, salary planning and budget cycles.
• Develop, recommend, and execute plans to address the business needs that will support SHC strategy and business objectives.
• Advise and influence senior management on all aspects of Compensation and Performance Management.
• Monitor and analyze best practice data, trend information, and economic projections to ensure SHC compensation strategy maintains a competitive market position and is responsive to business needs.
• Provide leadership, professional development and direction to the Compensation and Performance Management team on matters such as job evaluations, job offers, promotional increases, total compensation assessments, special pay studies, process improvements, and evaluation of our programs.
• Manage and maximize vendor relationships, consultants, and other external resources.
• Ensure SHC compensation policies and practices comply with legal, federal, and state laws and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate and align programs to HR Business Partners, executives, management, and employees.
• Partner with all HR Directors and Business Partners to deliver innovative solutions that are the highest quality and deliver outcomes that meet business needs and align with SHC core values.
• Provide thought leadership across the business on major Compensation and Performance Management initiatives linking programs to overall compensation philosophy and corporate programs.
• Partner with Finance on Compensation programs to ensure alignment with costs and practices.
• Design and lead the execution of Compensation and Performance Management programs (e.g. annual and biannual performance review process) and track compliance.
• Consolidate information and produce reports to be used for management decision making.
• Ensure proper documentation and audit processes are developed, approved, and followed.


Education Level
Bachelor's Level Degree; Master's Level Degree Within 2 years of hire

5 years Compensation experience and 5 years Management experience developing and executing compensation strategies at a system/organizational level.

Demonstrated experience operating within a large, complex, matrix organization is preferred.
