In 2017, the CBPâ€™s highly qualified trainers and counselors created over 350 training events attended by over 4,000 entrepreneurs resulting in 763 individuals receiving one-on-one counseling. This activity led to the creation of 56 new businesses, 604 new or retained jobs, and over $3.5MM in direct capital investment. The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason Universityâ€™s Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Located in Springfield, Virginia, the CBPâ€™s mission is to be a complete resource center providing training and support to those seeking to start and build successful small businesses.
The Womenâ€™s Business Center (WBC) of Northern Virginia is one of five centers of small business services within the CBP.
The WBCâ€™s mission is to provide women with the training, assistance, and support needed to start and expand successful small businesses in Northern Virginia. Founded at the CBP in 2001, the WBC offers high quality training, classes, networking opportunities, and one-on-one counseling to women and men in the northern Virginia region.
The WBC is part of a national network of Womenâ€™s Business Centers supported and sponsored by the US Small Business Administration.
Responsibilities: The Business Counselorâ€™s primary duties include: * Coordinate guest speakers for classes and other events * Train and counsel Northern Virginia businesses starting and growing up to two years of operation * Provide training instruction on all core WBC classes and new classes as required * Work with WBC Director to create/update curriculum * Create content for Social Media outreach, and help manage it * Assist WBC Director with reporting requirements as spelled out in contracts, grants and cooperative agreements * Advise and counsel business owners on a full range of business assistance services * Act as a team member to assist with the daily operation of the WBC and CBP at large when directed Required Qualifications: * Strong organizational and time management skills showcasing independent initiative * Significant interpersonal, customer service, and communication (both written and verbal) skills * The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities * Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion and professionalism * Ability to work some evenings and weekends Preferred Qualifications: * Advanced degree in business-related field or significant comparable experience * Experience as a small business owner, manager, or consultant/coach * An understanding of issues facing women business owners and/or experience with womenâ€™s business ownership * Experience in operating a community-based program or in serving community based programs * Experience as staff lead on projects and/or volunteer management * Public speaking and/or training experience * Proposal development and grant writing experience * Experience managing database systems * Bilingual in English and Spanish
