Applicants must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in ENGINEERING. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science and physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
A combination of education and experience which includes successful completion of one of the following as defined by the Office of Personnel Management: Professional Registration, Written Test, Specified academic courses or Related curriculum. In addition to the education requirement, specialized experience as outlined below is required.
GS-09: To minimally qualify for the GS-09 level, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-07 or equivalent level. Specialized experience demonstrates the ability to apply industry-accepted principles, techniques and practices of engineering to conduct analyses of recorded data;
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree. To be creditable, your education must be directly related to the position being filled

Selectees will participate in an intensive training program, create an individual development plan and have access to mentorship opportunities. Applicants who meet all program requirements may be converted to permanent appointments.
Applicants will be rated using the Category Rating System. Your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses to the Screening Questions/Occupational Questionnaire for consistency. Applicants must first meet any mandatory education/licensure/certification requirements before experience is evaluated. Failure to meet any mandatory requirement as outlined in the qualifications section will disqualify you from further consideration. Based on the extent and quality of your experience, education, and training in relation to these competencies, you will be placed into one of the following three categories:

The Category Rating Method does not add Veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.
