Term Assistant Professor in Industrial and Organizational Psychology
The George Mason University Psychology Department invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall 2019 semester. The position is in the Industrial and Organizational Psychology program, which offers both Masters and doctoral degrees. The Department of Psychology (https://psychology.gmu.edu/) has 33 tenured and tenure track faculty as well as 8 term and administrative faculty, over 1,200 undergraduate majors, and over 200 graduate students. We are one of the largest departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which is the largest academic unit at George Mason. Our department is guided by three primary foci. First, the department is focused on fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels in our department and, more broadly, in our field. This mission is facilitated by our location in one of the most diverse regions of the country and by George Masons status as the most diverse university in Virginia (https://www2.gmu.edu/about-mason/diversity-mason).
Second, in line with George Masons Carnegie classification as a Research I university and its strategic goal of conducting research of consequence, our department focuses on being a prominent center for translational research. Faculty and students in our department conduct high quality, rigorous research on pressing problems, and work to disseminate knowledge in both academic and non-academic circles. Third, we focus strongly on our training of doctoral students across all five of our doctoral programs (applied developmental psychology, clinical psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, and human factors and applied cognition). Faculty are highly dedicated to the success of our doctoral students, and our programs have continually increased in rankings over the years.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to have primary responsibility for the administration of a new online Master of Professional Studies Program in IO psychology (pending approval from the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia). The candidate is also expected to design and teach courses within that program. Research is not a required part of the job and will not factor into performance evaluations; however, opportunities for research collaboration are available if the candidate desires.
Required Qualifications: We are looking for individuals with a Ph.D. in IO psychology (or a related field such as organizational behavior, human resources, or management); and evidence of, or potential for, excellence at teaching/mentoring, particularly online and particularly at the graduate level. Candidates who will have a Ph.D. conferred before the start of Fall 2019 classes will be considered eligible for this posting.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have broad teaching interests, with the capacity to teach a range of IO and entry-level graduate applied quantitative courses.
Masons IO Psychology Program has a tradition of excellence in research and teaching. There are currently seven IO faculty members with a wide range of research and teaching interests. In addition, the IO Program has a tradition of professional service to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), with four SIOP Presidents affiliated with the program. The faculty moreover are engaged in the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the Academy of Management, and the Society for Occupational Health Psychology.
