million tons of wood pellet production capacity which we have strategically located in the southeastern United States one of the most attractive wood fiber regions in the world due to its abundance of commercial working forests and growing timber inventories We export our pellets to major utilities and power generators in the United Kingdom Europe and increasingly Asia that previously were fueled by coal enabling them to reduce their carbon footprint by about percent We make our pellets using sustainable practices that protect Southern forests And we employ more than people and support many a publicly traded master limited partnership NYSE EVA and Enviva Development Holdings LLC a wholly owned private company Enviva Partners LP Enviva Partners LP NYSE EVA is a publicly traded master limited partnership that aggregates a natural resource wood fiber and processes it into a transportable form wood pellets Enviva Partners sells a significant majority of its wood pellets through long term take or pay agreements with creditworthy customers in the United Kingdom and Europe Enviva Partners owns and operates six plants in Northampton County and Ahoskie North Carolina Southampton County Virginia Amory and Wiggins Mississippi and Cottondale Florida They have a combined production capacity of approximately million metric tons of wood pellets per year In addition Enviva Partners owns a deep water marine terminal at the Port of Chesapeake Virginia which is used to export wood pellets Enviva Partners also exports pellets through the ports of Mobile Alabama and Panama City Florida Enviva Development Holdings LLC Enviva Development Holdings LLC develops and builds wood pellet production plants and export terminals It has a pipeline of projects under development to support growing demand for wood pellets Through a joint venture with the Hancock Natural Resource Group and other affiliates of the John Hancock Life Insurance Company Enviva Development Holdings is currently commissioning a metric ton per year production plant in Sampson County North Carolina and a deep water marine terminal in Wilmington North Carolina which will bring Enviva s enterprise production capacity to nearly three million tons per year Description The Director of Government Relations leads and coordinates Enviva s efforts to track laws regulations and policies that may impact the company and to develop and advocate for the company s positions The scope of the position includes federal state and local governments in the US The purpose of the position is to engage lawmakers and influencers to further Enviva s ability to conduct ethical business that reflects our values strengthen Enviva s reputation and support the company s growth This is both a leadership and a hands on position Engagement with lawmakers and officials from states where our manufacturing and port facilities are located will be a priority area of emphasis These include Florida Mississippi North Carolina South Carolina and Virginia Topical areas of focus include but are not limited to climate and renewable energy policy policies impacting the forest products sector environmental policies related to manufacturing and policies impacting exports This position which reports to the Vice President for Communications and Public Relations is a highly collaborative role that will work closely with internal and external partners to include members of the communications team responsible for community and media relations other departments particularly Sales and Marketing the Sustainability team Legal and Corporate Development associations representing the industry and public relations and lobbying firms working on the company s behalf Responsibilities include but are not limited to Effectively coordinate all US government relations efforts to ensure the company is working toward common goals duplication of effort is avoided and policy matters important to the company receive appropriate attention Conduct research and monitor legislative regulatory and policy developments to see what changes could be advantageous and which trends might negatively impact the company or industry in the future Work in partnership with other departments to identify policy goals and priorities and develop a strategy to meet those goals Proactively establish and maintain relationships with key lawmakers regulators and policy influencers Where needed ensure the company has the right external support to execute the government relations strategy Identify and engage the right subject matter experts and or executives to attend meetings give presentations or otherwise engage with policymakers and influencers and ensure those individuals are prepared for success in those interactions Ensure appropriate company participation in government forums and industry group meetings Prepare policy briefings talking points and presentations for both internal and external audiences Represent the company in meetings and at conferences including representing the company s interests at association and industry group meetings Requirements Bachelor s degree or equivalent advanced degree in public policy communications or law preferred Minimum of years experience in a government relations function for a global company or division including direct interaction with members of the US Congress and state level lawmakers and administrators Exceptional oral and written communications skills including the ability to present information in a concise and compelling manner and to respond calmly and effectively to negative or hostile questioning Experience developing and executing government relations strategies with proven track record of positive impact Other preferred qualifications Established relationships in states where Enviva operates including Florida Mississippi North Carolina South Carolina Virginia Knowledge of the forest products sector or energy sector with emphasis on renewable energy and climate policy Knowledge of state environmental regulations Knowledge of the US federal rulemaking process Travel
