PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Responsible for field operation, maintenance and high voltage testing tasks in company substations, and maintenance and high voltage testing tasks in customer substations. - Required to coordinate technical activities for supervision and may be required to lead, direct, and provide liaison for complex work. - Assists in the field technical training for subordinates. - In the Maintenance Units, directs the work of employees engaged in maintenance and technical activities on high voltage substation equipment. - Provides custodial care and operational inspection of Company substations. - Evaluates test results and recommends appropriate action. - Performs advanced substation mechanical maintenance, high voltage testing and operations tasks. - Directs the installation of various high voltage substation equipment. - Ensures adherence to safety, security, fire, and permit and tagging regulations, and/or proper procedures by personnel. - Reviews and initiates changes for problems and follows-up to insure compliance. - In the Operation Units, directs the work of employees engaged in field operations of the electric system who locate and clear trouble in substations and on circuits, restore electric service, provide custodial care and operational inspection of Company substations, and provide operational and maintenance inspection of Company equipment in customer substations. - Inspects and evaluates sites as required to ensure safety, efficiency, reliability, environmental and aesthetic compliance. - Ensures that the equipment can be operated safely and according to accepted procedures to protect the health of those operating and maintaining it, the equipment involved, and continuity of service to the customers. - Monitors Company and Customer substations construction and maintenance work, reviews engineering drawings and recommends changes when appropriate makes frequent field checks to maintain knowledge of new facilities plans operational tests of equipment, phasing, and cut-in procedures for new substations and equipment. - Note: For the Operations Unit, this position performs phasing, and performs cut-in procedures for new substations and equipment - Takes appropriate action to ensure that all locks, signs, grounding leads, operating instructions and tools, etc. are on site. - Keeps abreast of company and customer substation activities involving new substations, major modifications to existing substations, and major circuit work as assigned. - Establishes close liaison with all other units, sections, and departments involved in major electric construction and maintenance work to assure coordination of work efforts and integrity of the electric system. - Participates in planning major substation maintenance projects. - Displays ownership of substations. - Ensures that substations are properly inspected, monitored, operated, and secured and that repairs or adjustments to equipment are performed as required. - Responds to system/equipment problems and performs analysis to determine operability or need for repairs and advises supervision of unusual system events. - Provides input/feedback to supervision as it pertains to performance management, Core Values and general team well-being. - Must be available for emergencies and overtime. Must be able to report to various work sites. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Minimum: Skills/Abilities: -Ability to meet Company driving standards, including a valid drivers license. -Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Test (TECH). Education/Experience: -Eight years experience in work relating to substation operation & maintenance or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
