    This announcement uses the Recent Graduates Direct Hire Authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the Competitive Service.

    Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must successfully completed a full 4-year degree in history or a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history OR possess a combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history plus appropriate experience or additional education. (You must submit your college transcripts with your application.)

    In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work that requires a professional knowledge of established methods and techniques of historical research in the collection, evaluation, analysis or presentation of historical facts performing all of the following duties: 1) conducting primary and secondary source research on historical topics that research and detail a major historical topic; 2) performing responsibilities that require use of historical judgment and ability to conduct extensive research to provide effective analysis and deliver sophisticated oral and written communications; 3) planning, researching, and preparing original studies, monographs, briefings, booklets, articles, scripts,chronologies, exhibit labels and/or other products that furnish detailed historical background and perspective to current and historic issues.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or have completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. (You must submit your college transcripts with your application.) OR

    COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience and education at the levels described above may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

    Recent Graduates must be appointed within two years of being awarded a bachelor's or graduate degree from a qualifying educational institution as defined by 20 U.S.C 1000. The two-year period of eligibility will be extended to four years for veterans who have completed a period of obligated uniformed service of more than four years, and was awarded a degree by an institution of higher educational not more than four years before the date of appointment.
