IT Communications Project Manager
Department Marketing Statement:WMATA is searching for a seasoned Project Manager to manage our IT communication projects. The desired candidate should have the proven ability to manage complex projects for various communications systems projects dealing with Voice and Data. The desired candidate should have an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Business or related field with ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in diversified information systems, communication systems management and technical expertise in large organization. In accordance with IT Strategic Plan, the desired candidate should have a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. The candidate should also understand the ITIL Principles of Service management and the software development lifecycle. Having working knowledge of CISCO, JUNIPER, AVAYA system infrastructure, SharePoint administration and Clarity experience is preferred. The candidate must be a team player, with a strong sense of maturity, responsibility, and initiative, and support fellow team members in effort and skill. Work environment emphasizes daily customer interactions and creativity and ability to maintain contacts with key stakeholders throughout the Authority. This position may require occasional nights and weekend overtime work.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Business, Public Administration or related field. Ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in diversified information systems, communication systems management and technical experience in a large organization including some experience in the development of major IT policies.
Or, an equivalent combination of post-secondary education in Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Business or Public Administration. Twelve (12) years progressively responsible experience in diversified information systems, communication systems management and technical experience in a large organization including some experience in the development of major IT policies.
IS REQUIRED: to provide after hours support coverage on as needed basis.
Is available for after-hours and weekend work on a scheduled as needed basis as well as on an emergency basis to support assigned projects.
Project Management Institute (PMI) certification preferred.
Cisco CC ENT or better preferred.
Successful completion of Avaya system administration training preferred.

This position is responsible for managing IT communication projects. The position is a responsible administrative and technical job dealing with various communications systems and related Information Technology (IT) activities of a difficult and complex nature. In accordance with the Authority's IT Strategic Plan, the Communication Project Manager will plan, coordinate, direct, procure, implement, and network communication project activities. Also, the Communication Project Manager will manage project resources and customer expectations to ensure that all projects are completed on schedule and within budget. The incumbent has extensive latitude for independent judgment and action within general guidelines provided by the IT/NCS Deputy Chief of Network Projects.
Manages and maintains schedules, coordinates procurements, and implements the activities of the Authority IT communication projects.
Provides consultancy to internal and external IT customers on technology implementation best-practices and procedures. Maintains a keen understanding of customer and Authority strategic priorities and the ability to anticipate the Authority's communication requirements.
Coordinates with the appropriate internal and external resources as needed to ensure the successful completion of the assigned communication project.
Oversees day-to-day project activities and ensures that assigned communication project's quality and schedule are met.
Provides technical assistance to Authority officials and offices on communication applications, including the oversight, research, recommendation, development, implementation, and coordination of such applications.
Oversees communication project contract services and ensures proper subproject management, design, and installation.
Ensures that all applications and documents are properly delivered.
Ensures that all communication systems are installed in accordance with approved Authority standards, practices and procedures.
Prepares and presents oral and written reports/recommendations within the areas of assigned responsibility as may be appropriate.
Attends meetings/hearings and other activities essential to the execution of functional responsibilities.
Establishes and maintains liaison with individuals and organizations with who interface is required.
