The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs think-tank headquartered in Washington, DC with five global centers, is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to work with its DC-based Development team.
The work of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is more important than ever. Carnegie’s 100 scholars around the world remain committed to the organization’s founding mission of advancing the cause of peace among nations. Together, they are mapping a changing global order and presenting some of the world’s best thought leadership on how to navigate away from conflict and toward cooperation and understanding.
The Major Gifts Officer will be a senior member of the Development team, heading up the individual giving program. The Major Gifts Officer reports to and will work closely with the Chief Development Officer to design and manage a strategy for major gifts focusing on the 7-figure+ level, increase Board engagement in fundraising, monitor and refine strategy progress, identify major gift prospects, cultivate major gift donations, and design and manage stewardship strategies. This position will also participate in quarterly strategy sessions with senior program staff in DC and center staff across five countries.
Successful candidates will possess significant fundraising experience with a consistent track record of identifying, cultivating, and receiving major gifts, preferably at the 7-figure level. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess superb writing and oral communications skills, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, can work independently and within a team environment, and have experience in policy and research-related institutions, preferably in international affairs.
