The Director of Business Applications for University Relations plays a key role in various decision-making capacities related to the business technology vision and management of the division for the use and access of both internal and external constituents. The director is responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective running of the technology infrastructure and allied facilities.

The director leads a team of professionals that provide support services, web services, reporting services, technical implementation, technical training, business process analysis, and business process reengineering for the division. The director’s role is a participative one, able to perform the essential duties of all staff members in order to level out resource constraints during the peaks and valleys of delivery expectations. The primary systems supported by business applications include the constituent database (currently Ellucian Advance), the on-line giving site, the gift processing system (used to manage gift entry, account agreements, and gift agreements), and outward-facing websites (such as the Donor Relations, Board Management, Celebration of Scholarships, etc.).

The director acts in a consultative role with division leaders to help them improve processes, select technical solutions, and actively leverage existing tools, systems, and data already available to them. The director serves as a liaison to the division of IT for technical matters related to the implementation of technical applications used in the day-to-day business operations within various departments.

The director supervises a staff of six directly and nine indirectly, including web development, report developers, a database administrator, trainer, and data analysis staff. The director acts as a mentor and coach for business applications staff, providing internal training, guidance, and leadership to help the staff grow as individuals. When appropriate, the director provides technical guidance to technical staff supervised by other division leaders.
The director works with senior leadership to deliver strategic business solutions for the division. The director must communicate effectively and efficiently across all layers of the division. The director provides technical, workflow, and process guidance to other areas of the division as desired to improve overall business continuity, effective communication, and efficient operations.

The director is responsible for leading the effort to plan, organize, and maintain technical systems for the division and develops procedures and best practices to ensure the integrity and security of all information systems. The director oversees the business applications staff to ensure projects meet the needs of division users in a timely and budget-conscious fashion.

The director is also responsible for researching, developing and implementing new constituent management database/software projects and tools geared toward upgrading the current systems and those being considered for the future.
